Theodore Francis Krapf
Papa Ted · Big Ted
July 16, 1940 – May 22, 2026
Theodore Francis Krapf, known as Papa Ted or Big Ted, passed away on May 22, 2026, in Providence, Rhode Island, where he was born and lived his entire life.
Born July 16, 1940, to Theodore and Anna Krapf, he was predeceased by his parents, his former wife Connie, and his siblings Joseph and Anne.
Ted was a hard worker in every sense. He built a career as a professional chef, at one point owning his own restaurant, and spent decades doing what he loved most: cooking for people. He kept his coffee cup full, quantity over quality, and his opinions even fuller. He loved his dogs, his Toyota Solara, and a good story, especially if he was the one telling it.
He was not a man who was easily knocked down. Ted faced some extraordinary things over the years and had the scars to prove it. He came back from all of it, and he was not shy about recounting the details to anyone who asked, or anyone who did not.
He is survived by his children Marianne, Fred, and Theodore (Teddy) Krapf, and grandchildren Jenna, Nevie, and Nico. He is also survived by his former wife Cynthia, who remained close to the family and was present at the end.
Also surviving him are his nephew Joseph Krapf and wife Julie; their son Joe and daughter Janelle Traynor and her husband Ryan Traynor; and great-grandniece London.
A private family gathering will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations in Ted's memory to the Providence Animal Rescue League (parl.org).
