Russell R. Fortier, better known to many as “Egor” or “Russ,” passed away on July 31, 2023, under the care of Philip Hulitar-Hope Hospice in Providence. Mr. Fortier was 67 years old. He was the beloved husband of Judith A. “Judy” (Matook) Fortier.
Russ was born on July 13, 1956, the son of the late Albert G. and Lucille (Quintin) Fortier. He graduated in 1974 from Central Falls High School and enlisted in the United States Army as a Field Artillery Technician until his Honorable Discharge in 1976. Russ worked for more than twenty years for the Fogarty Center in North Providence providing residential and day services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and most recently for Expressit Logistics as a courier.
Some of Mr. Fortier's interests included a lifelong interest in music and comedy. He loved roller coasters, walking the dogs in Slater Park or one of the local bike paths, and spending time with family and friends, preferably over a delicious meal. Mr. Fortier was a lifelong fan of the 3 Stooges and Broadway musicals.
In addition to his wife Judy, Russ is survived by a son, David Fortier. He was the brother of Diane Pontbriand (Richard) of Tampa, FL, Gerard Fortier (Lisa) of North Attleboro, MA, Albert L. Fortier of North Carolina, and Kenneth Fortier of Pawtucket. Russ is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday August 5th from 11-1:30pm in The Coelho Home 151 Cross Street in Central Falls. A private burial with Military Honors will take place in Veterans Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
