Roger L. Provencher, 74, of Pawtucket, RI, passed peacefully on August 23, 2024, at Philip Hulitar Hope Hospice in Providence, RI, after a lengthy illness. His wife of 39 years, Jo, was by his side along with many of his children and grandchildren.
Roger was born on January 29, 1950 in Central Falls, RI. He was the son of the late Emily & Eugene Provencher, and the youngest of 5 siblings. Besides his wife Jo A. Provencher, he is survived by his children, Melissa Shirely and her husband Thomas, of Warwick, RI; Kristin Barber of Pawtucket, RI; Eric Mello and his wife Lisa of Cumberland, RI; and Matthew Provencher of Pawtucket, RI. In addition, Roger, lovingly known as Pepere, is survived by his grandchildren, Craig Montecalvo, Victoria Giroux and her husband Kevin, John Mello, and Kaitlyn Mello, as well as his great grandchildren, Eric and Lily Giroux. Roger also leaves behind many nieces and nephews but non as special to him as his great niece Giabella Lamoureux with whom he shared a great friendship.
In death, Roger is reunited with his sisters Eveline Champagne, Jeanne Lamoureux, and Louise Provencher, and his son-in-law, the late Edward P. Barber.
Roger worked as a plastics molding technician for 25 years at Texas Instruments and later at Interplex in East Providence, RI. He was an avid fan of all New England sports teams, as well as being a NASCAR enthusiast. He enjoyed gardening in the spring and sitting outside in his screen room in the summer to watch his beloved sports teams. Above all, Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, especially during their summer camping trips.
Roger will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle nature, his quick wit, and sarcastic sense of humor, as well as his love of all foods, and his sweet tooth. He will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Memorial Services for Roger will be celebrated on Monday, September 2nd, from 2-4pm in the Charles Coelho Funeral Home, 151 Cross St., Central Falls, RI.
