Robert "Bob' R. Towner, 85 of Cumberland, passed away at home on Wednesday surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn A. (McNulty) Towner and had been married for 66 years.
He was born in Central Falls, a son of the late Emile O. and Jeanne (Leroux) Towner. He served in the United States Air Force for four years, stationed at Westover Air Force Base. He then joined his father and operated the F. L. Towner and Sons Painting Co. of Central Falls for many years and Robert continued that business long after his father's passing, retiring in 1998. After retiring, he and his wife moved to Florida where they resided for 20 years before moving back to Rhode Island, settling in Cumberland.
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Mary L. Kelly, wife of the late Jay Kelly, of Cumberland, Jeanne F. Salisbury and her husband James of No. Providence, Kimberly A. Langlois and her husband Gerard also of Cumberland; three sons, Robert R. Towner Jr. and his wife Janet of Pawtucket, James Towner and his lifelong partner Denise Poirier of Burrillville and Steven B. Towner and his wife Lisa also of Cumberland. He also leaves his sister Lucille Doucette of Cumberland,18 Grandchildren and 20 Great Grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters Estelle Gray, Lorraine Hood and his brother Emile O. "Pete" Towner; two Grandchildren, Robert R. Towner III and Kelly Salisbury.
Visitation in The Coelho Home, 151 Cross Street, Central Falls on Monday evening from 5 until 8 pm. A Funeral Prayer Service will be held Tuesday morning at 10 am in the Funeral Home, followed by Military Honors. Relatives and friends are respectfully welcome to attend.
