Robert Smith Obituary

Robert Dennis Smith 82 passed away on September 30, 2025, at Oakland Grove Healthcare Center in Woonsocket following a period of declining health.  He was born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on December 27, 1942, son of the late Florence (Capuano) a Clarence Smith.

Robert was a lifelong resident of Attleboro prior to moving into Oakland Grove. He was a caring and giving man who under his tough exterior, had a deep love and affection for his family.  Although he was only able to attend weekly Mass on occasion, Mr. Smith had a quite but true understanding of, and faith in God.   Through his brute, natural strength and deep belief, he was able to battle hard and fight what seemed at times to be an insurmountable opponent, cancer.  He refused to back down and fought hard to live.

Robert loved being in the outdoors, cruising around on his scooter.  Mr. Smith had a love for animals, especially his dogs and cats.  He was technologically savvy for a man his age, which enabled him to discover and enjoy online dating.  Household projects interested Robert, sometimes to a fault as, his OCD could naturally take over, and the simplest project turned into a major renovation.  Mr. Smith wasn’t perfect, who is and who would ever want to be?  His family loved him for his quirks and for simply being him and with a big heart and open arms, he loved them right back.

Robert Dennis Smith is survived by his son Robert D. Smith, Jr. and his wife Chrystal and daughter, Christine Nascimento and her companion David Foster.  He was the grandfather of Melissa Nascimento, Eric Nasimento, Aaron Smith and Sarah Smith.  Mr. Smith was the great grandfather of Kiana Sok and Nuno Veiga.  He was the brother of the late Gertrude Sullivan, Dorothy Ellis, Jonathan Porter, Helen Lange and Thomas Smith.  Also survived by several relatives and friends.

Visiting Hours to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend will be held from 9-11am on Wednesday October 8th in the Charles Coelho Funeral Home 151 Cross Street Central Falls, RI.  A funeral service will be celebrated in the funeral home at 11am.  Committal in St. John’s Cemetery 165 West Street Attleboro, Massachusetts.

In lieu of flowers the family of Robert Dennis Smith requests donations be made in his memory to The American Cancer Society.
