Robert Francis Fanion, Sr. formerly of Central Falls and Pawtucket passed away on the morning of October 17, 2022 at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. Mr. Fanion was 80 years old. He was the husband of the late Louise (Everett) Fanion with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Robert was born in Central Falls on July 29, 1942. He was the son of the late Raymond and Marguerite (Lachance) Fanion. Following his high school graduation Mr. Fanion entered the United States Army and later served in the United States Air Force, until his Honorable Discharge on March 31, 1966 with the rank of Airman Third Class. He worked for Geigy Chemical as a batch maker and later as a truck driver for NHD Trucking Co.
Baseball was a big part of Robert’s life. He enjoyed watching his sons play when they were young and he loved the Boston Red Sox. Mr. Fanion was an exceptional grandfather and held family close to his heart. He enjoyed fishing, coughogging and old movies such as Abbott and Costello.
Along with his late wife, Robert is re-united with his son the late Robert F. Fanion, Jr. Mr. Fanion is survived by his children; Kim Cercone and her husband Durand of Northfield, Maine, Brian Fanion and his wife Melissa of Providence and Kevin Fanion and his wife Amy of Chepachet. Mr. Fanion is the proud grandfather of Kyle, Robert III, Cory and his wife Samantha , Melanie, Alexander, Zachary and the late Jacen Fanion. He was the brother of Patricia Thurber of Maine, Michael Fanion of Massachusetts and the late Ronald Fanion. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as two sister in laws.
Robert’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, October 21st at St. Aiden-St. Patrick Church 1460 Diamond Hill Rd. in Cumberland. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 1:30pm in Veterans Memorial Cemetery 301 South County Trail in Exeter. Arrangements are under the care and direction of The Coelho Home – Funeral Directors of Central Falls. Robert's family will receive relatives and friends at the entrance of the church beginning at 10:30am.
