Nydia Heredia Obituary

Nydia Heredia a longtime resident of Pawtucket passed away on February 6, 2024 at Roger Williams Hospital in Providence following a courageous battle with declining health.  Ms. Heredia was 65 years old.  She was the loving wife of Joel Velez.

Nydia was born on July 9, 1958 in Utuado, Puerto Rico.  She was the daughter of the late Julia Colon and Octavio Heredia.  Ms. Heredia was a Jeweler who operated her own business, J & V Jewelry in North Providence for over 10 years until her health complications forced her into retirement.  She remained a positive energy and influence in her family’s lives, especially to her daughters and grandkids.

 Nydia was a kind and beautiful woman who had a deep faith.  Ms. Heredia was a devote member of Iglesia Trueno de Jehovah on East Avenue in Pawtucket, a place that brought her peace even in life’s most difficult moments.

In addition to her talents with jewelry and her Christian faith Nydia, had a love for music especially, music of the 60s, 70s and 80s.  Family was everything to her as there was nothing more important than hosting and attending family gathering and events.  Her makeup and appearance, was always impeccable, as was her choices in perfumes. Nydia will be remembered as fun loving, caring woman who loved to dance, sing, and play dominoes. She most of all, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Joel Velez, her daughter Nancy and son-in-law Reymond Rodriguez; her daughters, Sandra, Julie and Monica, her grandchildren, Teddy, Jailyn, Nayrin (Muneca), Judelka, Caylee Marcus (Nino), Rasheeda, Renisha, Raina, Carlos, Isaac, and Johnny. Her great grandchildren, Teddy, Skyla, Xander, Zaire and Willow. 

Nydia is also survived by her loving sisters, Nancy, Samia, Rosie, Janette, Evelyn, Nilsa, Mildred and Lourdes. Her brothers, Edwin and Rey. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom still kept in touch with her and her Grandson Jose (Junior).

Visiting Hours to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend will be held on Monday February 12th from 8-10:30am in the Charles Coelho Funeral Home 151 Cross St. Central Falls.  Nydia’s funeral will be celebrated at 11am at Iglesia Trueno de Jehovah 92 East Ave. Pawtucket.  Interment will follow in North Burial Ground in Providence.
