Nery O. Zuñiga Sanchez, 39, was called home after a long battle with cancer just ten days shy of his fortieth birthday on October 8, 2021 in Providence, Rhode Island. Born and raised in Joyabaj Quiché, Guatemala on October 18, 2021, he was the loved son of Maria Sanchez Soto and Estanislao Zuñiga Sanchez. In the late ninties, Nery and his brothers traveled to the United States together in pursuit of a better situation.
Nery was a talented landscaper who was proud to provide consistent and perpetual care to the yards and landscapes of his neighborhood and the entirety of Central Rhode Island. He was happy to feel the sun an sweat on his brow while patiently waiting for the perfect fish in Warwick Cove's spacious fishing grounds, when the sun was high and the land was dry, he'd be seen sporting some very fashionable sandals and rolled up jeans. He was a sports fan who enjoyed watching Major League Baseball. A devoted Christian, he was content knowing that God's plan was larger than anything he could understand and trusted that God would always keep him safe, even when the cancer returned. He was a resilient man who used his strength to fight his diagnosis, even to his last breath he praised God and his Holy Trinity.
Nery is survived by a host of friends as well as his father, Estanislao Zuñiga Sanchez of Guatemala; brothers, Eder Zuñiga, Marlin Zuñiga both of Providence and Roger Zuñiga of Guatemala; sisters, Elunia Zuñiga, Delma Sanchez, both of Providence and Maria Zuñiga of Guatemala. Nery is predeceased by his mother, Maria Sanchez Soto.
