Maria Escobar 84 of Pawtucket passed away peacefully on the evening of January 4, 2025 at Philip Hulitar Hope Hospice in Providence. Ms. Escobar was born in La Ceja, Colombia on January 8, 1940 to Mercedes Palacio Botero and Jose Manuel Palacio.
Maria immigrated to the United States on her birthday, January 8, 1973, settling in Central Falls. She was previously married for 23 years to the father of her children, the late Luis Nevardo Escobar. Ms. Escobar had a strong faith as a Catholic and attended several parishes in the area, although she had a special affection for St. Jude's in Lincoln. Maria was employed by the E.A. Adams Jewelry Company and the Angelica Linens Company on Pawtucket Ave. for several years. A natural fighter, Ms. Escobar stood as an independent woman and set forth as a magnificent, strong role model for her children.
Maria enjoyed having coffee at La Sorpresa every morning. She was extremely outgoing and sociable. People were drawn to her and loved talking with her. No enjoyment and no passion in Maria's life could ever compete with the enjoyment and passion she had for spending time with her children and grandchildren. To Ms. Escobar, family was everything.
Maria Escobar is survived by her daughter's Carmen Escobar of Cumberland, Beatrice Escobar of South Carolina, Maria Victoria Escobar of South Carolina and Martha Escobar of South Carolina. Ms. Escobar is reunited with her beloved son, the late John Escobar. She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren and she leaves behind 12 great grandchildren. Maria had 14 beloved siblings. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on her birthday, Wednesday January 8, 2025 at 9:00am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church 118 Taunton Ave. East Providence. Interment will follow in the Columbarium at Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery 661 Prospect in Pawtucket. There are no Visiting Hours. Relatives and friends are kindly asked to meet the family directly at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to the Charles Coelho Funeral Home of Central Falls.
