Lyda V. Rubio (Valderrama) 68 a longtime resident of Pawtucket passed away on the morning of December 30, 2021 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. Mrs. Rubio is reunited with her husband the late Jorge E. Rubio who died in 2012. Lyda was born on April 5, 1953 in Cali, Colombia and was the daughter of the late Querubin Valderrama and Lyda Rodriguez. She worked for many years in several of the local textile mills. Mrs. Rubio’s greatest work came as a mother and homemaker, as she would cook her family’s meals for the entire day before heading to work the 2nd shift.
Lyda’s spirit was felt by all who knew her. She was a warm and loving woman who motivated her 3 sons. Mrs. Rubio had a heart the size of the universe and a smile that could make even the worst day bright. Her home was filled with the aroma of her tremendous cooking and with her many plants, reminding her family of Colombia. She took care of everyone and was especially devoted to her husband Jorge, the only boyfriend she ever had before becoming his wife.
Lyda was a woman of faith and a dedicated member of St. George’s Episcopal Church on Clinton St. in Central Falls. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts and getting dressed up. Mrs. Rubio loved life and was a true survivor. Lyda was the true definition of what being tough, hardworking and humble is. Her love will continue on through her family and friends, lessons that only she could teach by just being her.
Mrs. Rubio was the cherished mother of Alexander Rubio of Pawtucket, Charles Rubio of Pawtucket and Jorge A. Rubio of Pawtucket. She was the proud grandmother of Dion A. Rubio, Jamie A. Rubio, Jolon A. Rubio, Jasmine A. Rubio, Alaynah A. Rubio, Jaison A. Rubio, and Leila A. Rubio. Lyda is survived by her siblings; Joaquin Valderrama, Orlando Valderrama, Aleyda Torres, Ruth Valderrama, Liliana Charria, Patricia Mitsoulis, Carmenza Valderrama and Elena Valderrama.
