Luz Echavarria de Gaviria Obituary

Luz A. Echavarria de Gaviria, 92, of Pawtucket passed away early Tuesday, July 27, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at the Hulitar Hope Hospice Center in Providence. Born in Medellin, Colombia on March 10, 1929, Luz was the loved daughter of the late Pedro Echavarria and Rosa Ruiz. She was the youngest of eight.

Married on February 25, 1952, Luz was the beloved wife of the late Jose de Jesus Gaviria. Together they had seven children. Luz was a loving mother to her children and happily devoted everything she could, to them. One of Luz's favorite activities with her children was to show them how beautiful their homeland of Colombia was, between listening to the breezy trees and finding vibrant and brightly colored flowers, she was always outside when the weather was good. When she was given the gift of grandchildren she was able to pass down the culture and history of their family and would encourage them to visit their motherland any time they got the chance. In 1995, she and her husband Jose had immigrated to Rhode Island with a few of their children to provide a better life for the generations to follow. She was a lifelong Catholic who found safety in her parish. Shortly after arriving in Rhode Island, she became a member of the Parroquia San Juan Bautista in Pawtucket and continued attending services until she became sick.

Luz is treasured and loved by her family, the most important people in her life. She is survived through stories and soups; her story is shared by her: daughter, Lilian Gaviria; her sons, Luis E. Gaviria, Luis C. Gaviria, Jose Gaviria, Juan Gaviria, Norberto Gaviria and Juan-Carlos Gaviria; her 18 grandchildren and her 25 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband and all seven of her siblings.
