Ludovina Macedo of Pawtucket passed away peacefully, with her loving family at her side on June 3, 2026 at the Philip Hulitar Hope Hospice center in Providence. Ms. Macedo was 87 years old.
Ms. Macedo was born on February 15, 1939 in Horta Faial, Azores, daughter to the late Jose Dos Reisand Ludovina Dos Reis. After coming to the United States, she implemented “the tools that she was given”, working for Colibri Lighters, a factory which specialized in making cigarette lighters. She also worked as a seamstress in textile mills and later for Texas Instruments.
A strong work ethic and a powerful faith in God were the core of Ludovina's life. The Patron Saint that Ms. Macedo loved most was St. Jude. She was an excellent mother who lived and died on her own terms, never once losing her independence. Some of Ludovina’s enjoyments were; knitting and crochet, heading to the casino to play slots and keeping herself looking beautiful and dignified. Above all though was her love and pure joy for her family.
Ludovina is survived by her children, Carlos DeRosa and Helia “Ellie” Collins. She was the beloved grandmother of Ethan Collins, Jennifer Poulin and the late Matthew Angel Collins and the late Jason Rosa. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Janessa, Matina, Vala, Jovian and Josiah.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Charles Coelho Funeral Home 151 Cross St. Central Falls, RI.
