Ligia (Betancourt) Bustos

ENGLISH VERSION OF OBITUARY:

Ligia Bustos, a longtime resident of Central Falls passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on the morning of Thursday May 16, 2024 at Philip Hulitar Hope Hospice Center in Providence.  Mrs. Bustos was 89 years old.  She is reunited with her husband the late Manuel Salvador Bustos. 

Mrs. Bustos was born in Armenia, Quindio, Colombia on November 12, 1934 to her parents the late Jose Mario Betancourt and Virginia Maria Correa.  Ligia immigrated to the United States from Barranquilla, Colombia in 1986, settling with her family in Central Falls.  She worked as a machine operator for Hasbro Toys for several years until her retirement at the age of 62.  The greatest work of her life was as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Ligia loved her family deeply and she was happiest when surrounded by those she loved most.

In addition to being devoted to her family, Mrs. Bustos was a kind a gentle woman.  She never had a bad word to say and never showed a negative.  Ligia was always happy and had a smile on her face, she was a beautiful woman with a beautiful soul.  Her children and grandchildren could always count on her to give solid advice when they needed it.  She loved to tell stories about beloved family members and the family’s history, which kept others entertained. 

One of Ligia’s enjoyments was going to the mall to shop. When she needed a break from shopping, she took pleasure in sitting down in the massage chairs to relax for a bit before she did some more shopping.  Mrs. Bustos enjoyed soap operas and action movies.  A truly remarkable woman, Ligia Bustos left a mark on this world, her beloved family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Ligia Bustos was the beloved mother of Fabian Bustos, Victor Manuel Bustos, Alberto Jose Bustos, Gustavo Bustos, Javier Bustos, Maria De Lasalas and Viginia Perez.  She was the sister of Alberto Betencourt and Carolina Betencourt.  Mrs. Bustos was a proud grandmother of 19 and a great grandmother of 37.  Ligia is also survived by her beloved nieces and nephews.

Ligia’s family invites all who are able, to attend Visiting Hours from 5-8pm on Tuesday May 21st in the Charles Coelho Funeral Home 151 Cross St. Central Falls.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am on Wednesday May 22nd in Holy Spirit Parish 1030 Dexter St. Central Falls.  Interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery 359 Daggett Ave. Pawtucket.

Ligia Bustos, residente de Central Falls desde hace mucho tiempo, falleció pacíficamente rodeada de su amada familia en la mañana del jueves 16 de mayo de 2024 en el Centro de Cuidados Paliativos Philip Hulitar Hope en Providence.  La señora Bustos tenía 89 años.  Se reúne con su esposo, el fallecido Manuel Salvador Bustos. 

La Sra. Bustos nació en Armenia, Quindío, Colombia el 12 de noviembre de 1934, hija de José Mario Betancourt y Virginia María Correa.  Ligia emigró a los Estados Unidos desde Barranquilla, Colombia en 1986, estableciéndose con su familia en Central Falls.  Trabajó como operadora de máquinas para Hasbro Toys durante varios años hasta su jubilación a la edad de 62 años.  El mayor trabajo de su vida fue como madre, abuela y bisabuela.  Ligia amaba profundamente a su familia y era más feliz cuando estaba rodeada de los que más amaba.

Además de ser devota de su familia, la señora Bustos era una mujer amable y gentil.  Nunca tuvo una mala palabra que decir y nunca mostró una negativa.  Ligia siempre estaba feliz y tenía una sonrisa en su rostro, era una mujer hermosa con un alma hermosa.  Sus hijos y nietos siempre podían contar con ella para dar consejos sólidos cuando los necesitaban.  Le encantaba contar historias sobre los miembros queridos de la familia y la historia de la familia, lo que mantenía entretenidos a los demás. 

Una de las cosas que más le gustaba a Ligia era ir al centro comercial a comprar. Cuando necesitaba un descanso de las compras, disfrutaba sentándose en los sillones de masaje para relajarse un poco antes de hacer más compras.  A la señora Bustos le gustaban las telenovelas y las películas de acción.  Una mujer verdaderamente extraordinaria, Ligia Bustos dejó una huella en este mundo, en su amada familia y en todos los que tuvieron el placer de conocerla.

Ligia Bustos fue la amada madre de Fabián Bustos, Víctor Manuel Bustos, Alberto José Bustos, Gustavo Bustos, Javier Bustos, María De Lasalas y Viginia Pérez.  Era hermana de Alberto Betencourt y Carolina Betencourt.  La Sra. Bustos era una orgullosa abuela de 19 años y una bisabuela de 37.  A Ligia también le sobreviven sus amados sobrinos y sobrinas.

La familia de Ligia invita a todos los que puedan, a asistir al horario de visita de 5 a 8 p.m. el martes 21 de mayo en la Funeraria Charles Coelho, 151 Cross St., Central Falls.  Una Misa de Entierro Cristiano se celebrará a las 9:30 a.m. el miércoles 22 de mayo en la Parroquia del Espíritu Santo, 1030 Dexter St., Central Falls.  El entierro seguirá en el cementerio de Notre Dame, 359 Daggett Ave., Pawtucket.
