Laureen J. (Stauff) Thurber of Cumberland passed away on January 16, 2026 at Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket. Laureen was 65 years old. She had battled valiantly through struggles with her health for the last several years, always rallying and always fighting for her beloved family. She was the wife of the late Steven F. Thurber
She was born in Providence on April 1, 1960, daughter of the late Violet (Diomontopolous) and Lawrence Stauff. Laureen spent most of her life living in Cumberland, except a couple years when she and Steven lived in Pawtucket. She was a graduate of the Catherine Gibbs School, earning her Associates degree in the secretarial profession. She went on to have a distinguished career with Frame Oil Filters.
Laureen was a cat lover and carried a calm faith in God. She was a fighter, a selfless person who loved to help others. Ms. Thurber was a strong and resilient woman who had a caring and compassionate side. Humor surrounded her, she was always joking with others.
Laureen J. Thurber is survived by her beloved daughter Amanda Thurber and her companion Brendan Heckbert of Cumberland. She was the sister of the late Larry Stauff. Laureen is also survived by her beloved cats.
