Kevin M. Coakley, Sr., 66, of Plymouth, formerly of Duxbury and Dorchester, passed away on September 14, 2023 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton following a period of declining health. He was the husband of Maureen Coakley (Driscoll) with whom he shared 47 years of marriage.
Kevin was born on November 28, 1956, in Boston, the son of the late Edward F. and Evelyn (Keane) Coakley. Kevin grew up in Dorchester and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the North End. After completing high school, Kevin attended Suffolk University in Boston and worked for Con-Rail as a locomotive engineer for 10 years.
Mr. Coakley realized his true calling as a police officer for the town of Plymouth, where his work ethic, grit, and personality made him a great natural cop and earned him the respect of his peers. A station favorite, Kevin was known for his deep commitment to the police department and for his good-natured use of humor and practical jokes to ease tensions in a stressful profession.
In addition to his service as a police officer, Mr. Coakley was a savvy businessman who owned The Corner Pocket Pub in North Plymouth and The Office in Whitman. In his free time, Kevin was a licensed pilot who enjoyed flying as often as he could. Kevin also loved working out, boating and jet-skiing at his home on Lake Winnipesaukee, and spending time with his beloved German Shepherds.
Of all Mr. Coakley’s accomplishments, his greatest are undoubtedly his children and grandchildren. Kevin was a devoted Dad and Papa, an excellent provider, and a dedicated father who never missed his children’s sporting or school events. His impact will be felt and remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Kevin M. Coakley Sr. is survived by his wife, Maureen “Moe” Coakley, of Plymouth, and by their four children: Kevin M. Coakley, Jr. of South Boston; Ryan Coakley and his wife, Jessica, of Hingham; Micaela Skura and her husband, Michal, of Louisville, KY.; and, Jacqueline Cregg and her husband, Andrew, of Hanover. Mr. Coakley was the proud Papa to, and is survived by, his grandchildren Evelyn, Abigail, Charlotte, Sloane, Amelia and Connor. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Mann of California. In addition to his late parents, Mr. Coakley is reunited with his late brother, Edward J. Coakley.
In accordance with the wishes of Mr. Coakley and his family all services will be held privately. Arrangements entrusted to Charles Coelho Funeral Home 151 Cross Street Central Falls, RI 02863, Funeral Director Brendan M. Fahy.
