Irene S. de Vasquez, 86, of Central Falls passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. Born in Metapán, El Salvador on March 3, 1935 to Siladelfo Monterrosa and Cecilia Mejia.
Irene lived in El Salvador for most of her life, while there she met and married her husband, Dionico Vasquez, together they had six beautiful children. In her home-district of Santa Ana, Irene served as a midwife and assisted in bringing hundreds of children into the world over the course of 59 years before deciding to bring her family to America. She and four of her children immigrated to the United States and they quickly settled in New England, while in the United States, she transitioned from midwife to homemaker and gave her efforts and love to supporting her children and eventually her grandchildren.
She found her home in her church, Iglesia Bautista Cristo la Roca in Central Falls. Her faith kept her motivated to continue after the passing of her parents and the canciones Cristianas permeated through her, she was a beautiful singer who only sang of our Lord. She was passionate about finding the positive, she graced everyone around her with her laughter and smiles and sometimes, her cooking. She was a hostess who would be her best self when sharing the bounty of God's love through coffee, hot meals and homemade tortillas - but her most treasured asset was her unconditional support and willingness to help whomever she could. She commonly put everyone else's needs above her own.
Predeceased by her parents, Irene is survived by her loving and dedicated family; her devoted husband, Dionico Vasquez; her children, Miguel Vasquez of Central Falls, Oscar Vasquez of Boston, MA, Jose Vasquez of Central Falls, Ana Vasquez of Central Falls, Nectali Vasquez of El Salvador and Rosa Vasquez of El Salvador; her brother, Benjamin Monterrosa of California; 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
