Irene Arruda, 84, formerly of Fogarty Manor in Pawtucket, passed away peacefully at the Holliday Retirement Center in Manville, after an illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Humberto Arruda. She was born in Sao MIguel the Azores, Portugal, a daughter of the late Jose R. and Carolina (Machado) Melo. She and her husband settled in Pawtucket in 1969 and had been communicants of St. Anthony's Church, Pawtucket. Irene also had been employed as an assembler for the former Monet Jewelry Co. for 10 years before retiring.
She is survived by two daughters, Maria F. Arruda of Tiverton, RI, and Maria L Arruda of Coventry and a son John Botelho of No. Providence. She also leaves a sister, Maria Tome of Vancouver, Canada, three brothers, Joao Melo of Cumberland, Carlos Melo of Central Falls and Luis Melo of Pawtucket. She was the Grandmother of 9 and a Great Grandmother of 10. She was the mother of the late Joseph Botelho.
Her Funeral will be held Monday at 9 AM from the Charles Coelho Funeral Home, Central Falls, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony's Church, Lawn Avenue Pawtucket at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Calling hours are SUNDAY, from 1 until 3 PM. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket.
