Gloria M. Williams (Margerum), of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 28, 2025, at the Little Sisters of the Poor – Jeanne Jugan Residence. She was 92 years old.
Born on August 24, 1932, in Parsippany, New Jersey, Gloria was the daughter of the late Velma (Taylor) and William Margerum. She was also the identical twin sister of the late Joy Smith—her lifelong companion, best friend, and kindred spirit. Gloria and Joy shared a bond that was truly rare: they lived together for most of their lives, married identical twin brothers, and worked side by side for many years as Certified Nurse’s Assistants, including a decade of care and service at the Jeanne Jugan Residence.
After their retirement from caregiving, Gloria and Joy remained inseparable until Joy eventually moved to upstate New York to be closer to her family. Gloria moved into her daughter’s home in Pawtucket, where she continued to live surrounded by love and family. Joy’s passing several years ago was a deep loss for Gloria, but she carried on with grace, love, and quiet strength.
Gloria embraced life fully. She traveled extensively with her daughter, Sherry, taking cruises and exploring faraway places. Of all the beautiful destinations she visited, Venice held a special place in her heart. At the end of the day, nothing pleased her more than enjoying a glass of wine and sharing a quiet moment with loved ones.
Above all else, Gloria was devoted to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose care and kindness shaped generations. Her presence was gentle, but her impact was lasting.
She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Smith of Newfield, NY, and Sherry Custodio of Pawtucket; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, all of whom were blessed by her love. In addition to her parents, Gloria is reunited with her beloved twin sister Joy and her brother, Richard Margerum.
In accordance with her wishes, a private memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd at the Jeanne Jugan Residence. Arrangements are under the care of the Charles Coelho Funeral Home of Central Falls.
