Florita Mercedes Gomez

Florita M. Gomez, 42, of Providence passed away at Rhode Island Hospital on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 after battling COVID-19. Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic daughter of Juan D. Gomez and Luz Del Carmen Rodriguez.

She moved to the United States over 30 years ago settling in Rhode Island. She worked in manufacturing for most of her time here until she decided to stay home to be with her children. She was a member of the St. Charles Church; Holy Spirit Parish, she donated much of herself to her church during her young adult life. Florita was a dedicated mother to her three small children, she taught them the importance of family and music. She was the beloved partner of Jose Betances for three years..

Florita is survived by her large and dedicated family; children, Jaleidys Duran, Fitzgerald Mercado, Jayden Betances; brothers, Juan A. Gomez, Jojanni Gomez, Nelson L. Gomez, Franki J. Gomez, William Gomez, Juan G. Gomez; sisters, Noemi Rodriguez, Maribel Gomez, Miledys Gomez, Ysabel Gomez, Yaniris Gomez and Maria Y. Gomez; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
