Elizabeth Mondestil

Elizabeth Mondestil, commonly known as Babette or Liz, 52, of Providence, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Roger Williams Hospital. Her departure shocked her entire family and many others who loved her deeply.

Elizabeth was born in Haiti on September 8, 1971, to her mother, Marie Thérèse Caduchon, and her father, Élie Mondestil. Babette grew up under the watchful eyes of her aunt Marie Elza Mondestil-Léger and husband Guillaumard Léger.  At the tender age of 10, she immigrated to the United States where first, she lived with her father, Elie Mondestil & his wife Rosemary Franҫois-Mondestil in Providence, RI, then with her late uncle Adès Mondestil & wife Clairgénie Duré-Mondestil in Warwick, RI.

Liz graduated from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School in 1983. Her caring and compassionate nature drove her to pursue a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked at Elmhurst Nursing Home in Providence and the Nursing Placement in Pawtucket, RI.

Liz was a beautiful, loving soul whose empathic heart was always ready to lend a helping hand. Her deep Christian values were rooted in her heart & helped her navigate through everyday life. She was a proud mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her son and grandson. Her favorite hobbies included long walks, going to the beach, and listening to music.

Liz is survived by her only child, AJ Remy & longtime girlfriend Acacia Johnson, and her only grandson, Andre Remy; her sisters, Mylène Dejoie of New Jersey, Carole Dejoie of Haiti, and Roslynn Mondestil of Florida. She also left behind many aunts and uncles and over thirty cousins, most living in the States. Liz was predeceased by her loving grandparents, Lormand and Cidalna Mondestil, and younger sister, Claudine Dejoie.
