Douglas Elkas Obituary

Born on July 9, 1955 in Providence, Doug was the only child of Florence Jacques and the late Albert Elkas.  He went on to graduate from Lincoln High School as a member of the Class of 1976.  Following his graduation from high school, Mr. Elkas earned his Associates Degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson and Wales University.  For several years Doug worked for Golden Arches Enterprise and operated Crawford’s Deli.  Mr. Elkas also managed the bakery in Stop & Shop.

Family was everything to Doug.  He would stop at nothing to make his daughter “Gabby” happy, even it meant putting on a pink tutu and practicing with her for her dance competitions. He also drove “Gabby” to her college classes every day. Mr. Elkas was the definition of a “girl-dad”.  He was funny and Doug passed that humor onto everyone.  Mr. Elkas also loved a bargain and of course, food…which was an important part of his life both in his profession and his enjoyment.  Also, Doug was always up for an adventure and was willing to help with anything!

Doug’s big heart extended beyond his family, he was an avid supporter of Best Buddies, Easter Seals and Relay for Life.  Mr. Elkas was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a past member of the Free Masons.

In addition to his wife Darlene and mother Florence, Mr. Elkas is survived by his beloved daughter; Gabrielle Neel and her husband Matthew of Woonsocket.  He leaves behind his dear in laws; Nicholas Matook and his wife Elaine of Cumberland, Judith Fortier and her husband Russell of Pawtucket and Linda Matook of South Hamilton, MA.  Doug was also predeceased by his bother-in-law the late John Matook. Mr. Elkas is also survived by his God children, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation from 10-11am on Thursday February 2nd in St. Ephraim Syriac Orthodox Church 215 Washington St. in Central Falls.  A funeral mass will be celebrated immediately following the visitation at 11am.  Interment will be held privately at the request of The Elkas Family.   In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Doug's memory may be made to St. Ephraim's Church in Central Falls, West Place Animal Farm in Providence or to a charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the care of The Coelho Home – Funeral Directors of Central Falls.
