Cheryl Conklin Obituary

Cheryl Ann (Guatieri) Conklin, 80, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Robert “Bob” J. Conklin. Cheryl was born in Central Falls on August 23, 1945, the daughter of the late Anita (Goulet) and Angelo Guatieri.

Mrs. Conklin was a graduate of West Senior High School, where she met the love of her life. Cheryl and Bob were married and moved to Alaska while Bob was stationed with the U.S. Army. After returning to Rhode Island, they started their family. Cheryl was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Cheryl loved to travel—especially by cruise ship—to warmer climates and abroad. She enjoyed living at the beach, where the family spent many summers. She also loved playing bingo and taking part in crafts at the Smithfield Senior Center and Greenville Public Library with friends. She had an affinity for angels, cardinals, red roses and loved her cat, Callie, immensely.

Cheryl is survived by her loving daughters: Christine Bertrand and her husband, Samuel, of North Attleboro, MA; her twin, Brenda Alfaia and her husband, Steve, of Cumberland; and Dawn Johnson and her husband, Kevin, of Foster, RI, and Sherrills Ford, NC. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Adam Bertrand, Amanda Bertrand, Ben Bertrand, Cody Bertrand, Ashley Packard, Brittany Kamm, Charity Alfaia, Abigail Johnson, and Wade Johnson; and great-grandmother to Hugh Bertrand and Hazel Bertrand. She is also survived by her siblings, Debbie Pierce, Renee Dery, and Michelle Rhodes.

Cheryl worked for Almacs Supermarket for more than 20 years, until the store closed. Thereafter, she worked for Stop & Shop for close to 30 years until her illness. She was also an avid volunteer with the Providence Performing Arts Center for more than 35 years.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, at the Tucker-Quinn Funeral Home, 643 Putnam Pike, Greenville, RI. A prayer service will be celebrated beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Charles-Coelho Funeral Home, 151 Cross Street, Central Falls, RI.
