Bernarda Villegas Obituary

Bernarda Villegas 82 of Pawtucket passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022 at her home with her family at her side.  Mrs. Villegas was the wife of Jaime Villegas, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. 

Bernarda was born on February 18, 1940 in Medellin, Colombia to her parents, the late Bernardo Escobar and Carmen Velez.  She came to the United States in 1970 and began working at Lyon Fabrics in Pawtucket.  Mrs. Villegas also worked for Hasbro and Paramount Greeting Cards prior to becoming a homemaker and raising her family with her husband, Jaime.

Some of Bernarda’s enjoyments included gardening, crafting, traveling and spending time with her family.  Mrs. Villegas was a very spiritual, religious woman and was a very active member of her parish. 

In addition to her husband, Bernarda is survived by her children; Andrea Villegas and her partner Keith Henson, Jr., Claudia Costa and her husband Albert and Natalia Kidd and her husband Steven.  She was the proud grandmother of Anthony, Steven, Dylan, Brooklyn and Elliana and the adoring great grandmother of Ava and Antony “AJ”.  Bernarda is also survived by her siblings; Angela, Gustavo, Beatriz, Lucia, Javier, Laura, Oliva and is reunited with her sisters, the late Blanca and Elena.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Teresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church 354 Newport Avenue in Pawtucket on Friday April 29th at 9am.  At the request of Bernarda’s wishes there will be no visiting hours held.  Private Cremation will take place following Mrs. Villegas’ funeral mass. 

Arrangements are under the care and direction of The Coelho Home 151 Cross St. Central Falls, RI 02863. 

 

Bernarda Villegas 82 de Pawtucket falleció pacíficamente el 26 de abril de 2022 en su casa con su familia a su lado. La señora Villegas fue esposa de Jaime Villegas, con quien compartió 59 años de matrimonio.

Bernarda nació el 18 de febrero de 1940 en Medellín, Colombia, de sus padres, el difunto Bernardo Escobar y Carmen Vélez. Llegó a los Estados Unidos en 1970 y comenzó a trabajar en Lyon Fabrics en Pawtucket. La Sra. Villegas también trabajó para Hasbro y Paramount Greeting Cards antes de convertirse en ama de casa y criar a su familia con su esposo, Jaime.

Algunos de los placeres de Bernarda incluían la jardinería, las manualidades, viajar y pasar tiempo con su familia. La Sra. Villegas era una mujer muy espiritual y religiosa y era un miembro muy activo de su parroquia.

Era la orgullosa abuela de Anthony, Steven, Dylan, Brooklyn y Elliana y la adorada bisabuela de Ava y Antony “AJ”. A Bernarda también le sobreviven sus hermanos; Ángela, Gustavo, Beatriz, Lucía, Javier, Laura, Oliva y se reencuentra con sus hermanas, las fallecidas Blanca y Elena.

Se celebrará una misa de entierro cristiano en la iglesia católica St. Teresa of the Child Jesus 354 Newport Avenue en Pawtucket el viernes 29 de abril a las 9 am. A petición de los deseos de Bernarda no se realizará horario de visitas. La cremación privada se llevará a cabo después de la misa fúnebre de la Sra. Villegas.
