Ann Marie Bettencourt passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 2nd at Ou Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence at the age of 73, after a long illness. She is pre-deceased by her parents, Mary and Joseph Rocha. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Lenny Maloney; her three daughters and their spouses, Debra and Mary Ann Bettencourt, Denise and Donald King and Melissa and Logan Durang; her seven grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew, Logan Jr., Tyler, Mason, Julianna and Isabella; her niece Katie; and her beloved cats, Fluffy and Trouble.
She was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Ann Marie was a longtime Rhode Island resident who graduated from Pawtucket West High School and received her associate degree in applied science from the Community College of RI. She was a dedicated employee of Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare of New England and ultimately retired from South County Hospital.
With an avid interest in crocheting and knitting, Ann Marie loved to impart her wisdom in these areas to her family and even taught a weekly beginners class to other residents at Heritage Hills Nursing Center, where she lived for the last nine months of her life. She enjoyed caring for her plants and her cats, going on cruises, antiquing, and collecting Shirley Temple dolls. During the last years of her life, Ann Marie spent her time visiting her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother, and sister.
A Gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday, at the Charles Coelho Funeral Home, 151 Cross St. Central Falls, RI 02863, from 1 until 3 PM.
