Joaquim "Jack" J. Almeida, who just turned 74 years of age, passed away tragically in Middletown, Rhode Island, while fishing. He was born in Villa Cova de Tavares, Portugal, a son of the late Jose and Antonia Cunha Albuquerque Almeida. Jack had served in the Portuguese Army and served in Luanda, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea and the Congo, Africa. Mr. Almeida migrated to Rhode Island in 1972 and had been employed at the former Healthtex Mfg. in Central Falls for several years before retiring. Jack loved to cook, watch 'cowboy movies', gardening, hunting and especially fishing.
He leaves his wife, Isabel Costa, two children, Cecilia Hoffa and Paul Almeida, both of Central Falls, three Grandchildren, a step daughter, Debora Perreira and a step grandchild of Brockton, MA. He also leaves his two sisters, Maria Lourdes deCamp of Warwick and Julia Joaquina Silva of Pawtucket. and many friends in Pawtucket and Central Falls. He was the brother of the late Maria Armenia Cunha.
A Gathering of Friends and Family will be held Saturday, in the Coelho Home, Central Falls, October 12th, from 3 until 5 PM . Relatives and friends are respectfully welcome to attend.
